Glider Assisted Payload Delivery System

Glider-assisted payload delivery system project included the launch of a payload from an aircraft that may be traveling at supersonic speeds. The system should be such that the payload including the glider kit is folded and packed inside a canister. As the payload is launched from the aircraft the payload along with the folded glider has to come out of the canister. Thereby tail and wing of the glider have to be deployed in a fraction of a second and then the whole system of payload + glider kit has to travel a certain (confidential) number of km before the payload is dropped.

This project was very unique as both the wing and tail fins were required to be folded in storage and once it is deployed from the aircraft all needed to be deployed in a fraction of a second. The salient feature is that the wing in itself weighed close to 200 kg and had huge inertia experiencing up to 4g loads during deployment and operation. The system complied with MIL-grade specifications.
